Thick, sandpapery, dark green foliage is the perfect backdrop for the rich red and purple flowers of the Bat Face Cuphea. The petite blossoms resemble that of a bat’s face, and cover the plant profusely in the spring, summer, and fall. It prefers to reside in areas that receive just a few hours of morning sunshine a day and that offer protection from the elements.
It looks stunning in hanging baskets and containers on patios or in courtyards. Weeping growth habits in hanging baskets can be achieved easily by only pinching when necessary, and letting the plant grow out. In containers, where a shrubbier plant may be desired, simply pinch back long stems frequently to encourage plant density.
