Blood Flower is an all-around crowd pleaser that attracts hummingbirds, several kinds of butterflies (including the Monarch), tolerates heat, resists grazing by rabbits and deer, and is incredibly easy to grow!
This small and unobtrusive perennial fits snugly into containers and garden beds or borders where it provides reliable color and constant interest from spring through fall. Even the plant’s elongated seed pods are ornamental; often used as accents in dried arrangements! Though treated as a perennial in Tucson, Blood Flower grows fast enough to be planted anywhere in the country as an annual, and sprouts quickly when grown from seed.
