Silvery green leaves and long-lasting spires of deep blue summertime flowers combine to form a dense and rounded medium-sized shrub that flourishes in our difficult climate. Dark knight bluebeard is tolerant of extreme weather conditions; from winter lows down to -30o F, to the high heat of summer in Phoenix.
When crushed, the leaves smell similar to sage, which keeps chewing from the likes of rabbits, deer, and many insect pests at a minimum. The flowers are more sweetly scented, inviting butterfly pollinators to visit frequently for nectar. Flowering and butterfly activity are constant from late spring through early fall, creating a beautiful and fun atmosphere wherever bluebeard is planted. This deciduous shrub goes dormant in winter, which is a good time to prune it back and shape it up for next year.
