The intense orange to red tubular flowers of the Desert Honeysuckle are a surefire way to keep the hummingbirds and butterflies returning to your garden. Though flower production is heaviest in spring, this thornless native will continue blooming through fall if given plenty of sun and a few summer irrigations. Desert Honeysuckle thrives in sunny locations, and happily grows in reflected heat from water features, gravel, or pavement. Consider tucking it among evergreen shrubs where it can be enjoyed for its blast of color from spring through fall, but won’t be sorely missed in the landscape when it goes dormant for the winter.
