Easter egg emu bush is a little-known evergreen shrub that comes to us from Australia. As its common name suggests, the colors of Easter are featured in its long-lasting buds and blooms that appear from spring through summer. Its flowers start out as yellow buds that deepen to orange before opening. By the time they’re open the blooms are a lovely pink, maturing to pinkish-purple before they’re done. A single shrub will display all of these colors at once along with its narrow, Easter-green leaves as individual flowers go through the stages of blooming. Emu bush enjoys high heat, full sun and arid conditions once established. It does great in containers and is a favorite source of nectar for hummingbirds. Other birds enjoy the grape-like berries that it produces after flowering is done.
