They seem to be made for our arid climate, greeting the scorching desert heat with clusters of pink, magenta, and yellow flowers that butterflies find irresistible. The multi-colored clusters open with bright pink and yellow hues that darken to magenta as they age; giving ‘Irene’ the distinction of having some of the most vibrantly colored lantana blooms available.
This hybrid is one of the shorter shrub lantanas, with a spreading habit that rivals trailing varieties. ‘Irene’ does remarkably well in borders or containers and along curbs or walkways, where it thrives in the reflected heat that damages many less tolerant plants.
