Also known as Evergreen Pistache, this drought and heat tolerant plant features bright green, glossy leaves on smooth reddish branches. Mastic can be shaped into a small, rounded patio-sized tree or left unpruned to grow as a large, dense shrub. It is valued around the world for its aromatic resin that we use to make products such as chewing gum and medicine.
In the arid Southwest, however, Mastic is praised for being one of the cleanest landscape plants on the market. As such, it is a fantastic choice for patios and pool sides, where reflected heat poses no problems for the tree, and the tree’s cleanliness causes no problems on the patio or in the pool!
