On the Mexican petunia, lavender-blue flowers present themselves in mid-spring and continuously emerge until the cold weather arrives. Like its namesake, Mexican petunia blossoms are quite similar to the annual, petunia, but the two are unrelated. Though the foliage appears lustrous and delicate, this shrubby plant can thrive in a variety of conditions, including dry or wet soil, full sun or partial shade, and requires little to no care.
It does well in pots, especially because it’s a very vigorous grower and it may be beneficial to keep contained. Plant form and amount of blossoming is dependent on how much sun it gets; more sun encourages more blossoms and shrubbiness. Plant near pools, ponds, and other water features to promote a lush feeling atmosphere. Pair with gold lantana or Arizona yellow bells for a dramatic color contrast.
