Modesto Ash is a selection of the native Arizona Ash that tends to be more compact and narrow than its parent. Because they are grown from cuttings rather than by seed, these all-male trees reliably form a symmetrical canopy without developing the messy seed pods that are produced by female specimens.
Modesto Ash is very fast growing, providing excellent shade with a dense umbrella of lime-green leaves through the summer, and allowing extra light and warmth through its branches when it goes dormant for the winter. Before dropping its leaves in winter, however, this tree lights up the landscape when it puts on a stunning show of golden-yellow fall color.
