Regal mist is a small clumping grass that sits quietly and unobtrusively in the garden until it explodes with plumes of airy pink flowers that rise well above its finely textured foliage in late summer and early fall. When planted in mass, the colorful autumn display is a stunning sight, but solo specimens are also quite impressive, especially when the cloud-like masses of blooms are backlit by the sun.
This tough U.S. native tolerates full or reflected sunlight, drought, and freezing temperatures. It also grows well in partial shade and makes a soft, graceful centerpiece for potted arrangements. Regal mist likes to grow in fast-draining soil and flowers best when watered regularly through the heat of the summer.
