Southern Live Oak is one of the few large evergreen shade trees for our hot, arid region. This broad and stately tree grows faster than most of the notoriously slow Oaks, and tolerates more soil moisture than other desert adapted trees.
Once established, it will also accept periods of drought, which means that Southern Live Oak works well in a variety of locations; from large, manicured lawns to more natural settings. In fact, this tree adapts to so many unfavorable soil conditions that its most limiting factor in the landscape is whether it has enough room to grow! Wherever it is located, this tree casts dense and welcomed shade beneath its wide canopy of leathery, dark-green leaves.
