Butterfly Bush is an obvious must-have for any butterfly garden, but makes a lovely addition to a hummingbird garden as well! The cone-shaped clusters of flowers, borne on the ends of its arching branches, are magnets for hummers and butterflies from spring through fall.
Butterfly Bush works well as a dark green background or foundation, but the mildly fragrant flowers and buzz of hummingbird and butterfly activity are better enjoyed when located in a sunny corner near a patio or walkway. This hardy shrub can put on several feet of growth per year! It also flowers more prolifically on new branches, and tolerates extremely cold temperatures, so winter pruning is encouraged to refresh the plant on a yearly basis and promote more blooms.
